In order to insure that participants meet Academy and university requirements, all participants are required to pass a qualifying test. The qualifying test will cover:

• Reading comprehension questions that measure the ability to read a short paragraph and then answer questions interpreting what was read.

• Quantitative problem solving questions that measure the ability to solve problems that involve mathematical computations including four-function arithmetic, percentages, etc.

• Reasoning questions that measure the ability to form conclusions based on the information given.

• Data interpretation questions that measure the ability to understand data presented in tables, charts, or graphs.

Applicants may use the County of Los Angeles Online Test Preparation System to help them study for the qualifying test. The Online Test Preparation System is only compatible with Internet Explorer.  Other internet browsers such as like Mozilla, FireFox, and Safari and possibly MACs are not compatible.  If you use an internet browser other than Internet Explorer, please email testprep@hr.lacounty.gov to request a copy of the study materials.
